What's on my mind?
From time to time, there are a number of things I want to get off my
chest. Either because I'm really pissed off, or because I'm feeling
generous. Whichever way, I hope it helps.
viewthing / viewmodel tool
- There's a group of poorly documented commands for Quake's console that
turn out to be very useful for model developers (.mdl files),
and quite interesting for the rest of us mortals.
The command "viewmodel" displays the contents of a .mdl
file, and the commands "viewnext" and "viewprev" allow
one to step through the frames withing the .mdl file. In order
for these commands to work, however, one requires a map with a "viewthing"
entity, that serves as the reference point for the display of the models.
Here, then, is a map that just does that. A simple room, with a ramp
to see closeups of bigger models. Detailed installation instructions are
located in the archive.
Download the viewthing tool (32Kb).

- Earlier this year John Carmack, posted this inspirational piece on
whether or not it would be worth porting Quake to various operating systems.
A very clever and perspicacious view of the computing world today. Read it.
teamplay 2
- Santa
Bartelemia's most favourite method of fragging other clans is with
teamplay 2. This means that if you kill a team member, you lose
a frag. This puts a stop to the scorched earth policy of "Kill 'em all
and see what comes out." This option is only available in Quake v1.06.
If you have v1.01, you can download the patch
(355 Kb) from ID
Software.
Fire off this command from the console, and you'll be
set.
